Xiaoxing Chen (b. 1999) is a Chinese writer-director from Shenzhen, now based in Brooklyn. Her name means “star” in Mandarin. Her coffee order name is “Finn”.
Her work delves into the intersections of vulnerability and resilience, dwelling on the unspoken and unseen complexities of human relationships, grief, and death.
Quiet by nature, she finds strength in silence and brings it into the characters she creates, who often carry a sense of quiet rebellion as they navigate the turbulence of life. Her sensitivity allows her to capture cinematic moments that appear mundane on the surface yet an intense inner core.
She is currently developing her upcoming short film, Babyland, Motherland, which was longlisted for the Unsolicited Scripts Short Film Fund & a finalist of Day Job Short Film Fund (in progress).
She is a recipient of the Gotham Marcie Bloom Fellowship in Film, and 1/2 of Crybabies Production.
