Xiaoxing Chen 陈晓星 (b.1999) is a Chinese writer-director from Shenzhen, now based in Brooklyn. Her name means ‘star’ in Mandarin. Her coffee order name is ‘Finn’.
Her work delves into the intersections of vulnerability and resilience, focusing on the complexity of relationships, grief, and death; the unseen and unspoken ‘lifescape’.
A quiet person by nature, she finds strength in silence and empowers her characters with subtle rebellion, letting the drama speak through moments that seem like nothing.
She sheds too many tears, which she tries to bury in her films.
She is a recipient of The Gotham Marcie Bloom Fellowship in Film for 2026-2027, and 1/2 of Crybabies Production.
